A day in the life of a Camp Leader!

So on a typical day I would wake up, get my Camp uniform on (red staff t-shirt, jumper and chino shorts) and get going to be ready at camp for the early shift at 07.30am or the late shift at 08.30am.

Camp Sweep

One of my roles is to check the site for any changes and set up for the day! I enjoy this time in the morning because it is so peaceful, the sun is low in the sky and the camp is quiet. I set up the meet and greet location where all of the children gather in the morning. We have an exclusive area for teens only and lots of fun activities for the younger ones.

How time flies!

The day starts with a camp dance that gets the children up and moving. The camp dance is so much fun and all of the Camp Leaders and children have a great laugh. We then take our groups off to their individual bases and get them settled for the day, this could include making up our camp rules, putting away their personal belongings and playing some ice-breaker games! It's then off to our first three activities of the day which include quad biking, archery, sports, nature trails and more! By 12.00 we are all ravenous so it is definitely time for lunch. The children all eat together in the lunch hall which gives them time to see their other siblings and friends.

13.00 and all the children are back in their bases and get them all registered and ready for the next three activities of the day.

16.00 is home time and we all gather back at the meet and greet locations. We sign out the children one by one as their adults collect them and get the camp ready for the evening. We close up, lock up and put all of the equipment away!

Home Time

We finish our camp day any time between 16.00 - 18.00 (depending on what shift we are on) and then we usually meet each other after work for a good catch up and a pizza!
