Safer Interent Week

Updated: May 2, 2018

This week has been safer internet week, you may or may not have heard! Safer internet week is designed to raise awareness for parents and children about the possible dangers of the internet. Here at Mavericks Day Camps we think that the Internet is a very clever invention, it allows us to connect with customers, buy new products and keep up to date with the latest trends.... fidget spinners right?

However, there are more sinister things lurking in the depths of the internet that you may not be aware of. This year the UK safer internet centre used the hashtag #ItStartsWithUs, the hashtag was based on their theme Create, connect and share respect: a better internet starts with you. Their aim was to ensure parents, carers, teachers, and even children know that making the internet a safer place starts with you!

Below we have compiled our top tips for keeping your children safe on the internet.

1. Talk, talk, talk and talk some more. Talk to your children about the way in which they use their technology and to always remember... If they don't like what they see turn it off and tell an adult.

2. Be proactive. There are lots of tools on the internet (aha) these days that can help you to feel more in control such as parental blocks that filter the content available to your child.

3. Get help. "Where do we start?" is a question we get asked a lot. We advise you looking at the UK's safer internet centre's website they have some great tips for parents and carers.

4. Lastly, we are here to help. As a company with a family ethos we like to think that our door is always open for you and your child. If you have any questions or concerns then please do come and chat to us, we will do our best to help.
