At Mavericks we LOVE home baking/cooking. Does your little one? If so check out our list of recipes below!

1. Mini pancake kebabs

  • Put the flour into a mixing bowl. Make a well in the middle and add the egg and about half of the milk. Using a wooden spoon, mix until smooth. The children will love getting a turn at stirring!

  • When the batter is smooth, gradually stir in the rest of the milk until it is well combined.

  • Add a small amount of oil to the frying pan; just enough to give a non-stick layer to the surface of the pan.

  • Pour 2 teaspoons of batter into the pan. Leave each pancake for about 30 seconds. Bubbles will appear on the surface and the mixture will start to set. Flip each pancake over and leave for another 30 seconds.

  • Transfer the pancakes to a wire rack and begin to layer on kebab sticks. We like to use strawberry slices and banana slices!

2. Moon Cakes!

  • Preheat oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4 and line a baking tray with baking parchment.

  • Mix the flour, sugar and baking powder in a bowl and rub in the cubed butter until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs, then mix in the dried fruit.

  • In a clean bowl, beat the egg and milk together with the vanilla extract.

  • Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients and stir with a wooden spoon until the mixture just comes together as a thick, lumpy dough.

  • Place golfball-sized spoons of the mixture onto the prepared baking tray. Leave space between them as they will flatten and spread out to double their size during baking.

  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden-brown. Remove from the oven, allow to cool for a couple of minutes then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool.

3. Drip, drip, drop little Jam drops!

  • Preheat oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4

  • Mix butter, sugar and vanilla with a wooden spoon until smooth.

  • Add egg and mix until well combined.

  • Sift flour and baking powder over mixture. Add milk and mix until combined.

  • Roll tablespoons of mixture into balls and place onto a lined baking tray (allow room for spreading). Flatten gently with the back of a dessertspoon. Make a heart shaped indentation in the dough with your fingertip (pinky fingers work best for big hands, kids can use index fingers!).

  • Fill heart shapes with strawberry jam.

  • Bake for 12-15 minutes. Allow to cool on tray for 5 minutes before transferring to wire rack to cool completely.
